2022 Easter Egg Fun Shoot 🐰

On a warm, sunny Easter Sunday morning, members could be found doing battle on the target range for the chocolate egg prizes on offer.

The scoring format was our often used ‘whites and blues’, and produced fine scoring all round.   After the score sheets were drawn in pairs by Peter, then totals calculated by Alison, the best three pairs were announced.

In 1st place were Joe and Jack (335),  2nd were Neil and Paul (325), with Eva and John (283), in 3rd place.   Phil won the ‘mystery score’ Easter bunny, and Leigh received the ‘try harder’ bunny.

1st Frostbite of the new season

There was a good turnout for our first Frostbite of the winter. We had 15 competitors including three juniors, for some it was their first competition. The weather was reasonable but very windy, and and all the scores returned were very good. Hopefully we don’t get snow on the ground too soon!

Scarborough Archers are delighted to receive a grant of £1,000 from Sirius Minerals Foundation.

Scarborough Archers are delighted to receive a grant of £1,000 from Sirius Minerals Foundation.

The club applied for a grant to purchase new targets to help with our beginners courses.

Scarborough Archers chairman, John Naylor said: “We’d like to thank the Sirius Minerals Foundation for their support.”

David Archer, chairman of the Sirius Minerals Foundation said: “We received a great deal of interest and enquiries from local sports clubs and societies in previous rounds, and we want to ensure that we meet local demand and needs.

“Amateur sports clubs are an important part of the social fabric of the area – they can make such a positive difference to people, helping them lead healthier, more fulfilled lives.

“The Board was blown away by the volume of high-quality applications for a vast range of sports.

“During the very tough selection process, it sought to achieve a balance across geography and various types of sport as well as the gender and age of participants.”

Bridlington Portsmouth competition

Eleven Scarborough Archers members took part in the Archers of Bridlington and Burton Agnes annual Indoor Portsmouth tournament. Our novice first year archers shot incredibly well with Chris Long just missing out on the medals. The recurve team members also just miss out on a medal. But the star of the day was club secretary Alison who finished a very credible second for a silver medal in the ladies longbow category.

Many thanks to ABBA for a very well run and enjoyable tournament.

Winter Frostbite bumper turnout

20+ members turned out for round 2 of our club ‘Winter Frostbite’ competition.
The weather was ‘bright, breezy and chilly’ but it didn’t prevent high scoring, with some of our newer members returning very respectable scores.

Probably the best turnout for a number of years.

Prize Presentation Night 2019

South Cliff Golf Club was once again the venue for Scarborough Archers annual Prize Presentation evening. The evening began with the dinner, which was organised by Derek, and his choice of menu proved very popular with the members. This was followed by the presentation of the prizes and medals to the winners of the competitions over the last 12 months by Alison and John.

This year the raffle was run by Wendy, Ann and Julie with many thanks to those members who donated the fine array of prizes.

Robin Hood Robin Hood riding through the glen

Oh no!   What have I done.   Paul contemplates the result of his Robin Hood on his own arrow.   Paul said “As I approached the target, I thought Oh dear, somebody’s been unlucky, then I realised it was my own arrow”

This is the first time a ‘Robin Hood’ has been achieved at our Osgodby Lane range.

Burton Constable – East Riding Yorkshire Championship. 2019

Sunday August 4th saw the East Riding Championship hosted by the Burton Constable Company of Bowmen, held on the lawns of the stunning Burton Constable Hall.

12 Scarborough Archers club members competed for an array of trophies and medals and managed to win both the recurve (Steve, Paul, Neil and Tasha) and longbow (Sean, Baz and Alison) team trophies.   Steve was just pipped by 1 point in the men’s recurve and won ‘best gold’ at 50 yards.  Wayne won the silver salver in ‘other wooden bows’, with John and Phil second and third.   Sean was second in men’s longbow, Alison was third in ladies longbow and also won the ‘couples trophy’ with Paul.  Tasha finished second in ladies recurve with a fine PB breaking our club record.   Baz won the fine Constable Arrow for the most golds at 60 yards. Many thanks for the organisational skills and the kind refreshments provided by the BCCB. A superb tournament,  not to be missed next year.

Roger Greaves Trophy 2019

This year was our best ever turnout for the annual competition and BBQ, and the targets were the severest yet.
30 members and guests enjoyed the warm weather for the BBQ, and the competition was a hard fought affair on difficult targets, with the eventual trophy winners being Paul W. (senior) and Emily R. (junior). Other prize winners were Derek S. and Neil S.

Many thanks to Sean for stirling work on the BBQ and Alison for collating the scores.

Scarborough Round Table group

Scarborough Archers once again entertained members of the Scarborough Round Table at our club and shooting range on Osgodby Lane.

After a short instruction session with the club coaches, they were soon shooting competitively, combining scores from the target range with scores from the ‘animals’ in the woods.

The competition was fierce and scoring was high.
The eventual medal winners were Jim (gold), Dave R (silver) and David E (bronze).
