Scarborians in the medals!

riggwelterShort daylight hours at this time of year meant an early start for the six Scarborian field archers travelling to Otley for the Riggwelter open shoot. Fine weather, a very warm welcome from our hosts, bacon sandwiches and hot tea set us up for the day’s challenging shooting.

An estimated sixty archers representing clubs from a wide catchment area and shooting a variety of bow types were ready to begin when the horn sounded at 10a.m. A figure of eight course lay-out meant that we all arrived back at the refreshment tent at suitable times to enjoy the excellent hot food provided by our hosts.

The course, of 2D and 3D targets, was challenging with some wicked ‘catch you out’ shots like the wolf amongst the sheep… hit the sheep by mistake and lose all your score points. Medals were awarded for each category of bow in use. Colin won a gold medal in the bowhunter class. John N. won a bronze medal in the AFB class with a stonkingly high score of 538 points, his best ever score and the fact that he won bronze demonstrates how many top shots were in the bow class..

Our club scores (mixed bow types) were John N. 538, Andy W. 454, Colin G. 414, Phil. P. 376, Keith M. 374, John R. 360.

We send our thanks to all the members of Riggwelter for making the day a memorable experience. Good weather, a warm welcome, fine food, a great course and… medals!!!
