Riggwelter Open Shoot (24th April 2016)

Riggwelted

At the sound of the first flatulent sparrow and in falling snow five Scarborians set off to Otley to compete in the Riggwelter open field shoot.

We were greet by our hosts with hot tea, bacon sandwiches and a very warm welcome round a blazing camp fire.

The course was complex and challenging attracting some top class field shooters. One target had us shooting off the top of a rocky crag down to a turkey in the grass, another target was a ravening wolf amongst sheep with the instruction to hit the wolf and not the sheep; a sheep hit incurred the loss of all points.

It was a delight to see so many junior shooters enjoying the day and gaining medals for their efforts.

Scores were high and we did not win any medals but, this was only our third open shoot and we have improved our scores each time, so hopes are high for future shoots. We thank Riggwelter for a well organised and enjoyable day.

Our top scores: John N. 454, Andy W. 418 and Phil P. 412.
